Hungarian Hydrological Forecasting Service

Hungarian Hydrological Forecasting Service was founded on 1 March 1892. Starting from 1929 it operated within the Institute of Hydrology. In 1952 the Research Institute for Water Resources Development (VITUKI) was established, HHFS operated within VITUKI until its closing in 2012. From 1 August 2012 HHFS operates within the General Directorate of Water Management (OVF).
Main activities of HHFS:

  • acqusition, processing and delivery of actual hydrological data
  • hydrological forecasting
  • acqusition, processing and delivery of shallow section information
  • acqusition, processing and delivery of meteorological observation and forecast data
  • acqusition, processing and delivery of snow and river ice related data

Current situation and forecast for the next six days:

On the Hungarian section of the Danube water levels are decreasing to Komárom and slightly changing downstream. Low water stages are valid.

On the Hungarian section of river Tisza water levels are decreasing to Csongrád and slightly changing downstream. On the free flowing sections (upstream of Záhony and from Kisköre to Csongrád) very low stages are measured to Tivadar, low water level values are valid from Tivadar to Tiszaug, and middle range values are observed downstream. On the section downstream of Záhony, water regime may be influenced by operation of hydropower plants.

Based on calculations for Hungarian stations included in the HHFS forecast system, the exceedance of flood alert levels is not expected in the next six days.
